Fade into you is of course one of my favourites. In a sort of typical postmodern/parallel world style Katrina has a version of this song (which she thinks she came up with before them) which has slightly different lyrics and is actually about Kim Philby. 'Fade' is espionage slang for doing a runner. The other change is 'you'll come apart and you'll go dark', 'going dark' also being espionage slang for going under the radar. Then there's 'the smiles cover your heart' which refers to that infamous press conference he did where he essentially smiled his way out of it.
And I do know what you mean about music helping with writing. Although sometimes it gets in the way. Other times it produces unwitting plagiarism. This explains some of the Interpol references in some of my poetry lol.
